WHO ARE WE?
THE TRUSTEES
As a charity, The Friends of Storey Arms is run by Trustees
The Trustees are a group of people who are committed to helping as many young people from Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan to benefit from a visit to the Storey Arms Outdoor Education Centre.
Most of the Trustees have themselves experienced the benefits of what the Storey Arms has to offer. See below who they are.
The Trustees are supported by others who serve on the Committee and those who volunteer their time on fundraising events.
Our TRUSTEES
CHAIR OF TRUSTEES
— Aled Morgan
Aled is a teacher at a Welsh-medium high school, Ysgol Plasmawr, in Cardiff. He first went to the Storey Arms while he was a student at UWIC (now Cardiff Metropolitan University). He is passionate about the value of outdoor education and runs the school’s outdoor education and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programmes. Aled is one of our founder Trustees.
VICE-CHAIR OF TRUSTEES
— Sarah Griffiths
Sarah is and has been involved in many organisations in Cardiff, both for work and as a volunteer. Her main focus has always been on youth work. She has attended a range of courses at the Storey Arms Centre to train as a Mountain Leader, allowing her to take groups of young people into the outdoors. Sarah is one of our founder Trustees.
HONORARY TREASURER / SECRETARY
— Carolyn Cummings
Carolyn joined the staff of the Storey Arms Centre in July 1994 as the Centre Secretary. During her 27 years in that role, she worked closely with teachers, youth workers and young people arranging their visits to the Centre. She also helped out on courses away from the centre, providing the catering for the groups. Carolyn is one of our founder Trustees.
TRUSTEE
— Andy Meek
Andy has been a part of the Storey Arms Centre since his early teens. He attended invitation courses and expeditions in hill walking, climbing and kayaking, which took him around the UK and Europe. After qualifying as a teacher, Andy returned to the centre as a member of staff and continued to take groups abroad as far away as Patagonia. As Head of Centre (2010-2024), Andy founded the Friends of Storey Arms and helped make it what it is today.
TRUSTEE
— Dave Ludlam
Dave is a former Head of Centre at the Storey Arms (2005-2010), having joined the staff in 1988 as Deputy Head. He has a long career in outdoor education and took groups of Storey Arms students on caving expeditions to France and Hungary. He has also raised money for the Friends through a couple of round-Wales challenges! Dave is one of our founder Trustees.
TRUSTEE
— Rachel Meek
Rachel’s involvement with the Storey Arms Centre started whilst she was at school and continued during her university years, as she trained to be a PE teacher. She has brought groups of pupils to the Centre, knowing its value to children from all backgrounds. As a founding Trustee, Rachel has organised and supported many of our family and fundraising events.

— Sally Thomas
Sally is a Senior Youth Worker for Cardiff Council and has a long association with the Storey Arms Centre, regularly taking groups of young people to the Centre for residential and day visits. She and her children have also enjoyed residential visits to the Centre over the years, so she has first-hand knowledge of the experiences on offer! Sally is one of our founder Trustees.
TRUSTEE (ex-Officio)
— Ryan Stamp
Ryan first attended the Storey Arms Centre whilst at school and quickly decided that that was what he wanted to do with his life! He attended a range of courses, put himself through qualifications and worked his way up through council youth work, play schemes and ultimately to the Storey Arms Centre. He is the current Head of Centre and supports the Friends of Storey Arms wholeheartedly as an ex-officio Trustee.
Our VOLUNTEERS
The Friends of Storey Arms wouldn’t be able to function without the enthusiasm and support of our Volunteers.
Any charity or fundraising organisation is built on the generosity of people who give their time, whether it be a regular place on a committee or occasionally, as a steward on a fundraising event.
No particular skills are necessary to get involved, but of course, if you do have skills that we can draw on, that would be fantastic!
We are currently looking for new volunteers.
